WebJul 17, 2024 · A flame test is a complex phenomenon that is not fully explained. In simple words, when a solution of metal salts, e.g., an aqueous solution of metal chlorides is injected into a flame, some of the metal ions may gain electrons and become neutral metal atoms. A flame test is an analytical procedure used in chemistry to detect the presence of certain elements, primarily metal ions, based on each element's characteristic flame emission spectrum (which may be affected by the presence of chloride ion). The color of flames in general also depends on temperature and oxygen fed; see flame color.

WebMay 1, 2016 · Theoretically speaking, beryllium and magnesium does not give flame test because their atoms are comparatively smaller and the valance electrons are strongly attached to the nucleus. Therefore their ionisation energies are high, so they need large amount of energy for the excitation of their valence electrons to higher energy level …
WebSep 22, 2024 · The relationship between the wavelength, frequency and speed of an electromagnetic wave is given by the equation: (8.1) c = λ × ν. Electromagnetic radiation also occurs as discreet packets of energy (or quanta) called photons. The energy per photon (in Joules) is given by the equation: (8.2) E p h o t o n = h × ν.
